AXIS Capital Announces Key Leadership Changes To Strengthen Global Markets Division

AXIS Capital Holdings Limited has unveiled a series of senior leadership appointments and structural realignments within its Global Markets division, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing underwriting effectiveness and operational performance across its specialty insurance portfolio.

According to the company’s official announcement, the changes are designed to foster deeper collaboration across business lines while strengthening leadership capabilities in both underwriting and operational functions.

Strategic Realignment Marks New Phase in Global Markets Strategy

As part of the leadership overhaul, Sarah Stephen has been promoted to Head of Liability, where she will oversee the General Liability and International Casualty MGA teams, both headquartered in London. Stephen will report to Dax Gulmohamed, who has expanded responsibilities as he assumes oversight of all Global Markets Liability in addition to his existing roles in Professional Lines and as CEO of AXIS Specialty Europe SE.

Both Gulmohamed and John Owen, Head of Specialty, will now report directly to Rory MacGregor, Head of Underwriting for Global Markets. The company noted that this structural shift is intended to create a more cohesive oversight framework across its underwriting operations.

Additionally, AXIS announced that its UK Property Binder team will now fall under the Global Markets Property division—formerly referred to as Non-Marine—led by Steve Cross.

New Leadership Roles Signal Growth and Innovation

Further bolstering its leadership bench, Raj Brar has been promoted to Head of Construction, Global Markets, following his role as Head of International Casualty and Construction MGA. Brar steps into the position previously held by Anna Woolley, who will be departing the company later this year.

In a move aimed at accelerating innovation and operational efficiency, Sam Patrick has been appointed to the newly created role of Head of Global Markets Transformation. Formerly serving as Head of Analytics and Innovation at AXIS, Patrick will now lead efforts to streamline operations, refine underwriting practices, and drive product development. He will report to Mark Farrup, working closely with the division’s senior leadership.

In addition, the company is actively recruiting for a Head of Delegated Strategy, a forthcoming role that will oversee all coverholder and MGA business within the Global Markets division. This new leader will also report to Farrup.

“These changes reflect our strategic focus on enhancing collaboration and improving operational performance within Global Markets,” said Mark Farrup. “By aligning talent and leadership in key areas, we are advancing our ambition to be a market leader in our chosen specialty lines and delivering greater value to our customers in an evolving marketplace.”
