Marsh Launches Nimbus To Support Europe’s Expanding Data Centre Construction Sector

Marsh, a business of Marsh McLennan, has unveiled Nimbus, a specialised insurance facility designed to support the construction of large-scale data centres across the UK and Europe.

Backed by a consortium of leading insurers from Lloyd’s and the broader company markets in London and Europe, Nimbus offers a comprehensive suite of coverages, including construction all-risks, delay in start-up, property damage, and business interruption. The facility provides capacity of up to €1 billion for construction all-risks and up to €350 million for delay in start-up coverage.

The launch comes as demand for digital infrastructure accelerates across the region, driven by the rise of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and other data-intensive services. This growth is fuelling significant investment in new data centres, not only in established markets such as London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Dublin, but also in emerging hubs like Milan, Madrid, Warsaw, and Stockholm—where constraints on land and energy access in primary markets are pushing development outward.

Industry projections indicate a substantial surge in data centre capacity across Europe, with over 900 megawatts of new infrastructure anticipated to come online in 2025. This growth is being driven by heightened demand from hyperscale cloud providers and enterprise organisations, as they scale up operations to support rising data processing and storage needs.

Nimbus is designed to provide clients with streamlined access to tailored, project-specific insurance from highly rated insurers, supporting better risk management during construction and a smoother transition into operational phases.

This launch follows Marsh’s introduction of its Data Centre Insurance and Risk Management Services, which offers end-to-end risk and insurance solutions for data centre developers and operators—from initial planning through ongoing facility management.
