Aon Launches Comprehensive Insurance Programme For Data Centre Projects Amid AI-Driven Infrastructure Boom

Global brokerage leader Aon has unveiled a specialised insurance solution tailored to the full lifecycle of data centre developments, from construction through to operational readiness. The move comes as accelerating investment in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure creates increasingly intricate risk environments.

The new offering — the Data Center Lifecycle Insurance Programme (DCLP) — provides up to US$1.5 billion (£1.2 billion) in coverage under a unified facility. It encompasses protection for construction risks, operational property damage, and business interruption. The facility also includes up to US$400 million in cyber physical damage cover during construction, and US$500 million in project cargo and transport insurance.

DCLP is designed to simplify the traditionally fragmented process of insuring data centre projects by consolidating multiple lines of coverage. This integrated approach aims to reduce procurement delays, improve risk management, and support faster delivery timelines — critical as demand for digital capacity surges worldwide.

Aon’s solution incorporates advanced risk engineering and cyber threat modelling, delivered through its global risk consulting team. This ensures clients are equipped to address emerging vulnerabilities across both physical infrastructure and digital ecosystems.

Additional features include third-party liability coverage up to US$100 million (excluding U.S. exposures), as well as non-damage cyber protection during construction and operational cyber coverage, including technology errors and omissions (E&O) insurance.

The launch aligns with Aon’s broader 3×3 Plan, which leverages the firm’s global resources, insurer relationships, and analytics capabilities to help clients navigate interconnected risks across more than 120 markets.
