QBE has announced the appointment of Paul Peerdeman as Head of Marine Underwriting in the Netherlands, marking a key step in the insurer’s expansion of its marine insurance portfolio into the Dutch market.
Peerdeman, who assumes the role on August 1, will be based in Amsterdam. He brings over 35 years of extensive experience in marine insurance, having held senior leadership positions at major firms including ERGO Netherlands, Aon, HDI Gerling, Chubb, and Allianz.
In his new role, Peerdeman will be responsible for launching QBE’s marine cargo and fine art & specie products in the Netherlands. These offerings have already been successfully introduced in France, the Nordics, and Germany following their respective rollouts in 2022 and 2023.
QBE’s marine insurance solutions are designed to support clients engaged in both domestic and international trade. The Netherlands, with its long-standing maritime tradition, is considered one of the world’s most active and mature markets for marine insurance.
The expansion into the Dutch market is part of QBE’s broader European growth strategy, initiated in late 2022. Ahead of launching operations in the Netherlands in early 2023, QBE strengthened its local team across underwriting, claims, operations, and finance, targeting mid-market and large corporate clients with a focus on liability, property, and financial lines solutions. These services are distributed primarily through intermediaries.
Further reinforcing its European presence, QBE recently appointed Maths Stanser as Head of Distribution for Continental Markets. Based in Brussels, Stanser is responsible for managing broker relationships across key regions including France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain. He also serves on QBE’s European Management Committee.
