Insurtech Gateway Gains Lloyd’s Authorisation To Accelerate Early-Stage MGA Growth

Insurtech Gateway, the specialist incubator for managing general agent (MGA) and software-as-a-service (SaaS) founders, has secured authorisation to operate within the Lloyd’s market following the acquisition of its Lloyd’s licence.

The approval marks a significant boost for Gateway’s platform, particularly for early-stage MGAs tackling emerging risks in underserved or rapidly evolving markets. For many new MGAs, access to Lloyd’s capacity has long been a stumbling block, with innovative ventures often struggling to secure insurer backing before proving their business models.

With its newly granted Lloyd’s broker status, Insurtech Gateway can now connect its portfolio companies directly to the Lloyd’s market, enabling founders to secure underwriting capacity faster and bring products to pilot stage with fewer barriers.

The new broking capability builds on Gateway’s existing suite of support for early-stage founders, which includes pre-seed and seed funding, insurance product design expertise, fast-track access to FCA regulation through Appointed Representative status, and a global network of progressive re/insurers, now complemented by the full reach of Lloyd’s.

Operating incubators in both London and Sydney, Gateway supports over 45 portfolio companies across 98 countries and works alongside 75 insurance partners. Notable alumni such as Bondaval, Coincover, Kita, Truvi, and Onsi have already delivered innovative insurance solutions to market.

This development comes as Lloyd’s intensifies efforts to attract innovation and accelerate speed-to-market for new products. Demand for capacity in niche and emerging risk areas remains strong, with MGAs playing an increasingly vital role as carriers leverage delegated authority to tap specialist underwriting expertise. Interest in insurtech partnerships is also on the rise in the London Market, as underwriters seek technology-led solutions to enhance efficiency, reach untapped customer segments, and build more agile distribution channels.
