Zurich Insurance Group has appointed Robin Matthias as global head of Zurich Resilience Solutions, effective March 1, 2026.
Matthias succeeds Dirk De Nil, who is retiring after a 35-year career in the insurance sector, including 17 years with Zurich. During his tenure, De Nil oversaw a period of significant growth and transformation, helping to establish Zurich Resilience Solutions as a strategic pillar of the group’s global operations.
Zurich Resilience Solutions provides corporate clients with risk advisory and mitigation services aimed at anticipating and managing both conventional and emerging threats. Its offerings include risk assessment, resilience planning, loss prevention and crisis management.
Responding to growing demand
The business has expanded in response to rising demand from organisations seeking more proactive approaches to risk management amid an increasingly complex risk landscape. Key drivers include cyber incidents, climate-related hazards, supply chain disruption and regulatory change.
In recent years, the unit has strengthened its capabilities through the integration of advanced analytics, scenario modelling and sector-specific expertise, enabling clients to better understand complex exposures and make informed decisions to reduce operational and financial risk.
Strategic appointment
Matthias’ appointment is expected to support Zurich’s broader strategic objectives by accelerating the expansion of its advisory capabilities and enhancing operational efficiency across the global team. He will be based in Zurich and report to Sierra Signorelli, CEO of US and Commercial Insurance.
Extensive leadership experience
Matthias brings nearly two decades of consultancy and leadership experience to the role. He previously spent several years at McKinsey as a partner, advising financial institutions and major European insurers on strategy, operational performance and organisational transformation.
Most recently, he served as senior vice president and client executive at State Street Bank International, where he was responsible for strategic client relationships across EMEA and the management of complex portfolios.
