Energy has once again taken centre stage for London market insurers, as recent developments highlight both increased capital allocation to the sector and a growing emphasis on seasoned leadership.
On the underwriting front, HDI Global UK & Ireland is strengthening its energy and power platform in London, aiming to establish itself as a leading market for complex risk placements. Meanwhile, governance and strategic oversight are being reinforced at AEGIS London, which has appointed Dominion Energy CEO Robert Blue as a non-executive director to enhance board-level expertise.
AEGIS London strengthens board with Robert Blue appointment
AEGIS London has named Robert Blue as a non-executive director, reinforcing the leadership of the high-performing Lloyd’s syndicate.
Blue joined Dominion Energy in 2005 and has since held several senior roles spanning regulatory affairs, operations, and public policy. He assumed the role of president and CEO in October 2020, followed by his appointment as chair in April 2021. In addition, he serves on the board of Associated Electric & Gas Insurance Services Limited (AEGIS), the parent company of AEGIS London.
HDI Global expands energy & power footprint in London
HDI Global UK & Ireland is accelerating its expansion within the London energy and power insurance market, with ambitions to become a recognised lead market for brokers and clients.
This initiative follows the appointment of Matthew Bond as head of energy & power in March, forming part of a broader strategy to enhance HDI’s integrated energy and power capabilities across major hubs including London, Singapore, Dubai, and Houston.
London is expected to play a pivotal role in this strategy, underlining its importance as a global hub for energy insurance.
To support this growth, HDI is investing in its underwriting, claims, and risk engineering functions in London. Key developments include the appointment of Dave Wilson as global head of energy claims, alongside the relocation of experienced underwriters within the HDI Group, including Ferhat Aclan from Hanover.
