Fleet Assist And Ascend Insurance Announce Leadership Appointments

This week’s insurance industry appointments include a business development leadership transition at Fleet Assist and a new group development director at Ascend Insurance Holdings, as both businesses focus on their next stages of growth.

Tim Peacock to Lead Business Development at Fleet Assist

Fleet Assist business development director Garry Winckley is set to retire in January 2027. In preparation for the transition, customer success director Tim Peacock will assume responsibility for the business development team over the coming weeks.

Peacock will work alongside the team to develop operational and technology-led solutions for Fleet Assist’s more than 50 fleet customers in the service, maintenance and repair (SMR) market.

Fleet maintenance management plays a role in vehicle downtime and repair costs, both of which can affect fleet insurance claims. Technology-led maintenance solutions may help fleet operators improve vehicle availability and manage costs, offering potential benefits for brokers supporting clients with fleet-related risks.

Ascend Insurance Holdings Appoints John Read as Group Development Director

Ascend Insurance Holdings (AIH) has appointed John Read as group development director. He will focus on expanding the business by building partnerships with independent commercial lines brokers across the UK.

Read previously served as managing director of WTW’s networks division and as a regional managing director in the West Midlands. He began his 30-year career at Aviva and has also held roles at Marsh and Allianz.

AIH was established with backing from private equity firm Inflexion, which launched the platform in January with a cornerstone investment in Chelmsford-based Ascend Broking Group. The group received Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) authorisation in April and has access to backing of up to £200 million.

Inflexion’s strategy is to develop a network of four to six regional broking hubs, supported by shared central services covering areas such as IT, finance and compliance.

Read’s experience leading a broker network could support AIH’s efforts to engage independent broker owners. The group is positioning itself as an alternative to larger consolidation platforms, with an emphasis on preserving brokers’ autonomy and local identity.

For independent broker owners considering a sale or partnership, the emergence of platforms with different operating models may provide additional options. Cultural fit, local independence and the level of central support could be important considerations alongside financial terms as consolidation activity continues to shape the UK broking market.
