Brit expands ILS investment platform Sussex Capital with new hires

After a successful 2021 financial year, global speciality insurer Brit Limited (Brit) has started the next phase of growth of its ILS investment platform, Sussex Capital, by welcoming Cornell Fox and Masa Kitade to the team.

An ILS specialist, Fox joins Sussex Capital from Bermuda-based Peak Capital (formerly Lutece Investment Management), where he was the head of investor relations. He also held roles at Validus Holdings and AlphaCat Managers Ltd. Before moving to the ILS sector, he worked on property insurance at Hiscox.

In his new role as the head of investor relations and business development, Fox will focus on leading Sussex Capital’s fundraising as it looks to capitalize on its growth potential. He will also be responsible for its investor relations activity and development.

Commenting on his appointment, Fox said: “In just under five years, Sussex Capital has established itself as a well-respected ILS platform in the market. With significant demand from investors across the globe for diversifying asset classes, I look forward to working closely with the team to capitalize on this potential, bringing the platform to an even greater number of investors.”

Meanwhile, Kitade brings to Sussex Capital over 25 years of experience spanning the reinsurance and finance sector and specialist ILS knowledge and expertise from holding roles as a chief marketing officer at Mercury Capital Ltd and CEO of Eastpoint Asset Management Ltd. He also has deep expertise in the Asian insurance market, having served as regional director and head of Japan business for Aon Asia.

In his new role as the head of business development for Asia, Kitade will play a pivotal role in developing the Sussex Capital platform in Japan and Asia more broadly, driving investor relations and managing and implementing the vehicle’s strategy across the continent.

Offering investors access to Brit’s industry expertise, solutions, and client base in his new role, Kitade commented: “I’m looking forward to broadening Sussex Capital’s presence across the Asian market, enabling the region’s ILS investors to access to one of the most innovative and highly regarded platforms within the market.”

Masa and Cornell will report to Sussex Capital managing director Chris Denton, who welcomed both new hires to the team as it continues to grow its portfolio and drive the business forward.

“Sussex Capital has an ambitious expansion strategy and significant potential within the ILS market,’ Denton added.
