Great American Names New Specialty P&C Leaders

In anticipation of expected retirements, Great American Insurance Group has made changes to its speciality property and casualty group, promoting two divisional presidents.

Within the fidelity/crime division, Stephanie M. Hoboth was elevated to divisional president. She will succeed Frank Scheckton, who will leave the company in September after nearly 28 years.

When Hoboth joined Great American in 1997, she was the division’s sixth employee in the fidelity/crime division. She has held numerous leadership positions within the organisation, including divisional senior vice president most recently.

She was in charge of the company’s fidelity/crime underwriting offices, as well as its specialised underwriting group and IT functions, throughout her time there. She was instrumental in the development of various firm projects, including a programme business model and the kidnap and ransom programme. She also played a key role in assisting Great American in being the leading criminal writer of Native American risks in the United States.

Hoboth graduated with honours from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in arts. In 2016, she was named as one of Insurance Business America’s Elite Women in Insurance.

Michael B. Mulvey was also appointed to divisional president of the FCIA – trade credit and political risk division by Great American. He will succeed Phil Lally, who will retire in July after more than three decades with the company.

Mulvey joined FCIA as a divisional vice president in 2012, where he oversaw the company’s claim and recovery activities. In 2021, he was elevated to divisional senior vice president, where he was in charge of reinsurance, compliance, and corporate governance, as well as serving on the credit committee for the division.

Mulvey has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, with a focus on claims and underwriting. He graduated from Lehman College with a Bachelor of Arts and Pace University with a Juris Doctorate.
