Google has decided to cancel its biggest event of the year – I/O 2020 amid the current outbreak of the coronavirus. Google I/O developer conference was one of the biggest events happening in developers industry. This decision was taken due to concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19) in accordance with health guidance released from the CDC, WHO, and other health authorities across the globe.
The event was scheduled to take place between May 12th to 14th 2020 at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Google has also promised that all attendees who have purchased their tickets for the I/O 2020 will be given full refund by March 13, 2020.
Earlier google has also scrapped their physical Cloud Next Event that was happening in San Francisco that was scheduled to run from April 6 to 8, 2020 and now the company will host the an online event under the “Google Cloud Next ’20: Digital Connect” moniker.
Google’s I/O 2020 event every year introduces new changes to Android, Google-powered hardware, and even provides updates to their multitude of services like Google Maps.
Google’s cancelation of their event is the latest addition to a large line of tech events which are getting scrapped due to coronavirus concerns across the globe.
Alike google, Microsoft has also cancelled its MVP Summit, a networking event for its “Most Valuable Professional” program and will now be hosted as virtual version of the event. The event dates will not be changed, however only instead of the physical event now Microsoft will host the online version on March 16th to 20th 2020.
Mobile World Congress, Facebook’s F8 developer conference and the Game Developer Conference have also got canned due to outbreak of coronavirus in addition to Google and Microsoft events.
