Allianz UK Names Glyn Hughes As Managing Director Of Personal Broker Business

Allianz UK has appointed Glyn Hughes as managing director of Allianz Personal Broker, further strengthening its senior leadership team within the personal lines business.

Hughes, who will assume the role in February 2026 subject to regulatory approval, will report directly to Serge Raffard, managing director of Allianz Personal Lines. His appointment underscores the company’s commitment to brokers as a core pillar of its multi-product, multi-channel growth strategy in the UK market, particularly across motor, home, and travel insurance.

Currently director of personal lines underwriting and pricing at Ageas, Hughes has overseen the profitable expansion of its personal lines portfolio. His leadership spanned motor, home, travel, and special risks, with a strong focus on broker collaboration and distribution partnerships to sharpen Ageas’s competitive edge.

Hughes began his career at Groupama in 2005 in the personal lines pricing team before becoming head of personal lines pricing & planning. He moved to Ageas in 2013, initially focusing on motor underwriting, and went on to lead motor pricing and underwriting support before advancing into senior leadership roles.

Until Hughes formally steps into the position, Graham Wright will continue to lead Allianz’s personal broker team on an interim basis. Wright assumed the role following Nicola George’s decision in October to step down and pursue new opportunities.

The appointment comes amid intensifying competition in the UK personal lines broker market. Rivals such as Aviva have been strengthening broker relationships through digital trading platforms and regional development teams, while RSA has been investing in underwriting expertise to enhance intermediary services. Ageas, Hughes’s current employer, has also sharpened its focus on profitability and broker partnerships in motor lines amid sustained pricing pressures.
