Allianz UK has announced key leadership appointments within its commercial division, reinforcing its commitment to strategic growth and underwriting excellence. Effective April 14, Adam Lloyd has been named chief underwriting officer, while Claire Buck has been appointed chief technical officer—a newly created role. Both executives will report to Phuong Ly, who assumes the position of managing director for Allianz Commercial in the UK on April 1. These appointments remain subject to regulatory approval.
Lloyd brings over 15 years of experience with Allianz Australia, where he has played a pivotal role in shaping portfolio strategy and underwriting governance. His extensive background in underwriting and sales positions him well to drive Allianz UK’s commercial underwriting strategy forward.
Buck, a seasoned professional with nearly two decades at Allianz UK, has amassed a wealth of expertise across multiple functions, including SME and digital business, underwriting, the executive office, and business architecture. Her appointment as chief technical officer underscores Allianz’s focus on technical excellence and innovation within its commercial operations.
These leadership changes come as part of Allianz UK’s broader strategic initiatives. On April 3, 2025, Phuong Ly will officially step into his role as commercial managing director for the UK. He will oversee the company’s commercial insurance business, spanning digital, mid-market, and large-corporate segments, as well as engineering inspection, legal protection, and fleet services. Ly will report to Colm Holmes, CEO of Allianz Holdings UK, and Dirk Vogler, chief regions officer international at Allianz Commercial.
In February, Allianz Commercial appointed Mitch Bennett as the new Head of Claims for Large-Corporate and Specialty in the UK. In his new role, Bennett will oversee claims services for large corporate and specialty clients, reporting directly to Ly and Thomas Sepp, Allianz Commercial’s Chief Claims Officer.
Bennett brings extensive industry experience, having joined Allianz Commercial in 2022 as Head of Property, Entertainment, Natural Resources, and Construction Claims for the UK region. His leadership is expected to enhance claims services and reinforce Allianz Commercial’s commitment to delivering tailored solutions for its clients.
These strategic appointments reflect Allianz UK’s continued focus on strengthening its leadership team to enhance service delivery and maintain its competitive edge in the commercial insurance market.
