Aon Launches Transportation And Logistics Risk Capital Vertical Amid Leadership Transition

Aon has unveiled a dedicated risk capital vertical for the transportation and logistics sector as part of a leadership transition within its commercial risk business. The new vertical is designed to strengthen Aon’s specialised risk management capabilities and will be chaired by Lee Meyrick until his planned retirement at the end of 2026.

The phased transition will also see Phil Smaje appointed as global industry specialty leader for transportation and logistics, effective October 1, 2025.

Meyrick, who has held senior global specialty leadership positions at Aon for the past eight years and previously at XL Catlin and AIG, will oversee the development of the vertical. The initiative will deliver risk capital solutions for transportation and logistics companies, leveraging data-driven insights, alternative risk transfer, and reinsurance strategies to help address challenges such as supply chain volatility and economic uncertainty.

Smaje, who joined Aon in 2023 and currently serves as chief broking officer for transportation and logistics, will assume operational leadership of the specialty. His career spans senior roles at WTW, Piiq Risk Partners, and Ardonagh Specialty.

Aon highlighted that the transportation and logistics industry faces increasingly complex risks and growing demand for bespoke solutions. The creation of the vertical reinforces the firm’s strategy to build highly specialised services for industries with unique and evolving risk profiles, while ensuring leadership continuity through the transition.
