APCIA Announces New Board Leadership

The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) has announced the appointment of new leadership for its board of directors, effective January 1.

Dino E. Robusto, executive chairman of the board at CNA Financial Corporation, has taken on the role of chair, succeeding Alan Schnitzer, CEO of Travelers, who has served in the position for the past two years. David A. Bell, president and CEO of ALPS Corporation and ALPS Property & Casualty Insurance Company, has been named chair-elect.

APCIA president and CEO David A. Sampson emphasized the importance of these appointments, expressing gratitude for Schnitzer’s leadership and strategic vision during his tenure. Sampson also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to tackling rising insurance costs through initiatives such as promoting home-hardening measures and addressing inefficiencies in the legal system.

Robusto serves as executive chairman of CNA Financial Corporation, a role he has held since joining the company in 2016. Under his leadership, CNA has focused on strengthening its underwriting practices.

Before CNA, Robusto spent nearly three decades at Chubb, holding roles including executive vice president and president of its Commercial and Specialty Lines division. He also serves on the boards of Junior Achievement USA and The Institutes. Robusto is a graduate of McGill University and the Wharton Business School Executive Management Program.

Bell brings extensive experience in the insurance industry to his new role as chair-elect. As president and CEO of ALPS Corporation and its subsidiary ALPS Property & Casualty Insurance Company, he has overseen the company’s operations and strategic initiatives. His career also includes serving as COO of Allied World Assurance Corporation and working as an executive protection manager and lobbyist for Chubb. Bell is actively involved in his community, serving on the boards of the Bank of Montana and the Missoula Montana Airport Authority, among others. He is also affiliated with the Mansfield Center and Grateful Nation Montana. Bell holds a degree from the University of Montana.

With this leadership transition, APCIA aims to strengthen its focus on industry challenges and opportunities, leveraging the experience and expertise of its new board leaders to drive its mission forward.
