Ascot, a prominent figure in the reinsurance landscape, is proud to announce the establishment of a robust marine & energy treaty reinsurance division, spearheaded by Alex Kirkby, now appointed as the senior vice president and head of marine & energy in Bermuda.
Bringing over a decade of comprehensive experience in the marine & energy sector, Kirkby’s tenure encompasses roles across brokerage and carrier domains, lending invaluable insight to his new role at Ascot. His previous position as vice president at Validus Reinsurance, where he specialized in marine, energy, and composite business lines, underscores his expertise in the field.
Kirkby’s professional journey also includes tenures at PartnerRe and Willis Re, further augmenting his proficiency. He articulated his excitement about joining Ascot, emphasizing the company’s unwavering commitment to underwriting excellence, collaboration, and fostering an entrepreneurial ethos.
Alex Kirkby said, “I am delighted to join their team of dedicated industry professionals and bring my knowledge and leadership experience to the company’s Bermuda platform to launch the marine & energy treaty portfolio alongside Emma Foxley. With this new business capability, Ascot will continue to support and strengthen its excellent value proposition for both our clients and brokers.”
Emma Foxley will be assuming the role of vice president, marine and energy, also stationed in Bermuda.
Foxley makes a seamless transition to Ascot from the Lancashire Insurance Group, where she served as an underwriter within the specialty reinsurance segment. Her professional journey commenced at Markel CATCo Investment Management as a portfolio analyst, and since then, she has been dedicated to cultivating and fortifying client relationships across Bermuda.
Simon Kimberley, Ascot Bermuda’s chief underwriting officer for property, expressing his enthusiasm regarding the new appointments mentioned, “Alex and Emma’s combined expertise, experience and strong broker and client connections will complement our existing group relationships and capabilities,” he said. “Ascot has long been regarded as a leader in the Marine sector and this strategic expansion into marine & energy treaty business underscores our continued commitment to the space.”
