Global insurer Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has now earned its way to Switzerland.
Announcing its foray into the Swiss market, the Boston-headquartered group said it now underwrites estate, casualty, and executive & professional lines in Switzerland from the company’s new office in Zürich. Meanwhile, several other product lines are set to be inaugurated later on.
Leander Metzger, who was elected as country manager for Switzerland, stated: “We look forward to housing our team in Zürich and bringing BHSI’s commitment to excellent technical underwriting and service and our CLAIMS IS OUR PRODUCT® philosophy to consumers and brokers throughout Switzerland.”
In the country, BHSI trades under Berkshire Hathaway International Insurance Limited, which is an incorporated England and Wales limited liability company.
“Establishing this new office in Zurich reflects our focus on broadening our presence and relationships throughout the DACH region,” said Andreas Krause, head of DACH at BHSI.
“It is another crucial step in our strategy to steadily grow our capabilities, our team, and our local presence throughout Europe. Leander has had great achievements building European relationships, and we are excited to have him lead our expansion in Switzerland.”
An internal hire for the Swiss expansion, Metzger has been with BHSI since June 2016. While promoted to country manager, Metzger is at the same time retaining his existing role as BHSI’s head of property, engineering lines, and risk control. His industry experience spans over two and a half decades.
