Bishop Street Expands UK Footprint With Acquisition Of Avid Insurance

Bishop Street Underwriters has announced the acquisition of Avid Insurance, a London-based managing general agent (MGA), marking another milestone in its strategic global expansion.

Founded in 2006, Avid Insurance specializes in providing tailored insurance solutions for complex and underserved markets. Its diverse portfolio spans construction, social housing, leasehold, equine, motorsport, gadget, student contents, and travel insurance. Operating as a Lloyd’s coverholder, Avid partners exclusively with A-rated carriers and leverages data-driven underwriting and pricing methodologies. The firm’s headquarters are in London, supported by additional teams in Leeds and Hornchurch.

Through this acquisition, the Avid team will integrate with Bishop Street’s platform, gaining access to broader resources and advanced technology, including AI-powered underwriting tools. The move enhances Bishop Street’s presence in the UK and aligns with its long-term strategy to expand across multiple jurisdictions.

The transaction, finalized on October 3 following regulatory approval, marks Bishop Street’s second UK acquisition this year. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Earlier in 2025, Bishop Street completed its first international expansion with the acquisition of Landmark Underwriting, another London-based MGA. That transaction extended Bishop Street’s reach into marine and political risk insurance while reinforcing its footprint in the London and global markets.

Additionally, the company bolstered its transactional risk capabilities through the acquisition of Ethos Specialty’s transactional liability unit in late 2024. The Ethos team continues to operate under Bishop Street, maintaining continuity and a data-driven underwriting approach. These strategic additions have expanded Bishop Street’s total premium portfolio to more than US$300 million.
