Brown & Brown (Europe) Acquires Specialist UK Broker Weatherbys Hamilton

Brown & Brown (Europe) has completed its acquisition of UK-based insurance broker Weatherbys Hamilton LLP, further strengthening its presence in the specialist insurance sector. The transaction, which has received regulatory approval, brings enhanced capabilities in private client, bloodstock, and farm and estate insurance into the Brown & Brown portfolio. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Weatherbys Hamilton operates from seven offices across the UK—in Wellingborough, London, Edinburgh, Penrith, Horsham, Swindon, and Newmarket—and is highly regarded in the bloodstock insurance market, serving horse owners, breeders, and trainers.

Established in 2012 as a joint venture between Weatherbys Bank and Charles Hamilton, the firm grew under the leadership of founding partners Alec Moore, Richard Chugg, Beth Sharkey, and William Johnson. Weatherbys Hamilton will continue to operate under its existing brand name, with all team members remaining in place across its current locations.

The acquisition forms part of Brown & Brown’s broader UK expansion strategy. It follows the firm’s purchase of commercial motor specialist 1st UK Broking in April, one of several recent bolt-on acquisitions aimed at building regional scale and specialist expertise.

Since rebranding from Global Risk Partners in September 2023, Brown & Brown (Europe) has continued to consolidate its identity across the region. Approximately 100 formerly independent brokers have now adopted the Brown & Brown name, as the group advances its integration and growth objectives.
