Bupa UK Insurance And Cleveland Clinic London Renew Strategic Healthcare Partnership

Bupa UK Insurance and Cleveland Clinic London have announced a new multi-year agreement that will see the continuation and expansion of healthcare services for Bupa customers in central London.

The renewed partnership not only ensures ongoing access to Cleveland Clinic London’s advanced medical care but also introduces new initiatives aimed at enhancing the patient experience.

A key feature of the agreement is the continuation of a value-based healthcare pilot, which launched in 2024. This innovative model shifts the focus from the volume of services provided to the outcomes achieved—rewarding providers for demonstrable improvements in patient health post-treatment.

As part of the enhanced agreement, Bupa and Cleveland Clinic London have implemented a no-shortfall guarantee for employed consultant fees. This ensures that Bupa policyholders will not incur out-of-pocket costs for consultant charges that exceed their policy limits.

Additionally, the pilot includes access to Bupa Platinum consultants, who are available to customers across all of Bupa’s health insurance schemes.

Rob Lorenz, President of Cleveland Clinic London, emphasized the joint commitment to delivering high-quality, safe care. “Our longstanding relationship with Bupa has allowed us to provide consistent, high-standard care to its members, and we’re pleased to continue this work under the new agreement,” Lorenz said.

Richard Washington, General Manager for Healthcare at Bupa UK Insurance, noted that the adoption of value-based healthcare reflects a broader industry shift in how healthcare outcomes are measured and incentivized.

The agreement comes on the back of a strong financial performance for Bupa in 2024. The company reported a 16% year-on-year increase in revenue, reaching £16.9 billion, and a 59% rise in underlying profit before tax, totaling £914 million.

Bupa has also continued to scale its digital health capabilities. Its Blua platform, which offers virtual consultations and remote monitoring services, now supports nearly 7.5 million users worldwide.
