The International Underwriting Association (IUA) has announced the appointment of Chris Jones as its new chief executive, effective May 1, 2025. Jones will succeed Dave Matcham, who is retiring after an extensive 45-year career in the London insurance market, including two decades leading the IUA.
Currently serving as the IUA’s director of legal, underwriting, and claims, Jones oversees the work of more than 40 London Market committees. He also provides regulatory and legislative support to member companies and is a qualified Company Secretary.
Matcham’s career in the insurance sector began in 1980 with the Institute of London Underwriters, which later merged to form the IUA. Throughout his tenure, he has represented the interests of IUA members across multiple London Market boards. In a transitional capacity, he will continue to hold board positions at Velonetic and Placing Platform Limited (PPL).
The latest London Company Market Statistics Report revealed that IUA members generated a total premium income of £48.432 billion in 2023. Of this, £42.995 billion was in gross premium written in London, while £5.437 billion was written in other locations but managed by London-based operations.
Joint Power Generation Committee (JPGC) Election Results
In addition to the leadership transition, the IUA, in collaboration with the Lloyd’s Market Association, has announced the results of the recent elections for the Joint Power Generation Committee (JPGC).
The newly elected committee members are:

- Rebecca Friel (Travelers)
- Mark Pettersen (Argenta)
- Alex Priestley (Lancashire)
- Lindsay Waller (MS Amlin)
These appointments reflect the continued commitment of the IUA and its partners to fostering expertise and leadership within the London insurance market.
