CII Partners With EDII To Strengthen Its New Generation Programme

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has entered a strategic partnership with innovation education specialist EDII to enhance its flagship New Generation Programme, designed to nurture emerging leaders across the insurance and financial planning sectors.

Launched in 2010, the New Generation Programme offers rising professionals the chance to conceptualise and deliver a project aimed at advancing the insurance profession. Participants are drawn from a range of disciplines within general insurance, including broking, underwriting, claims, and the London Market.

From 2025, the initiative will broaden its reach to include professionals from the wider financial services sector through the involvement of the Personal Finance Society (PFS). The forthcoming intake will bring together around 50 participants across multiple cohorts.

The collaboration comes at a time when rapid digital transformation, evolving regulation, and shifting societal expectations are reshaping the insurance landscape. Against this backdrop, leadership development and innovation have become critical priorities for the sector.

By integrating EDII’s expertise, the CII aims to equip participants with advanced skills in innovation, strategic thinking, and project management—capabilities needed to drive meaningful change and tackle complex industry challenges. The partnership will provide structured support to ensure each cohort’s project delivers measurable value, while also increasing the visibility of New Generation initiatives among employers, regulators, and broader industry stakeholders.

EDII will deliver sector-specific learning and facilitation to help participants refine their ideas, develop actionable project plans, and strengthen their ability to contribute to long-term transformation across the profession. EDII CEO Caroline Bedford said the collaboration will give participants the frameworks and tools needed to turn ideas into tangible outcomes, creating lasting value for both their organisations and the wider industry.

The partnership reinforces the CII’s commitment to cultivating a future-ready workforce and underscores the essential role of innovation and leadership in sustaining the growth and relevance of the insurance and financial planning professions.
