Everest Group has announced the appointment of John Howard as an independent, non-executive member of its board of directors, effective immediately.
Howard brings over three decades of experience in the insurance and financial services sectors, having held senior executive positions throughout his career. Most recently, he served as the CEO of Truist Insurance Holdings (TIH), where he spent 20 years in various leadership roles within the company and its affiliates.
Notably, Howard spearheaded the US$16 billion leveraged buyout of TIH from Truist Financial Corporation, formerly BB&T Corporation. Under his leadership, TIH became one of the 10 largest insurance brokerages in the United States. He played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s operating strategy, governance structure, and assembling its board and leadership team.
On January 1, Howard transitioned from his role as CEO of TIH to vice chair and continues to serve on the company’s board of managers.
Howard’s extensive career includes leadership positions at Prudential Financial, GE, and Conseco, Inc. He began his professional journey in active duty with the U.S. Navy. Beyond corporate leadership, he has been actively involved with industry associations and regulatory bodies.
He currently serves on the Insurance Policy Committee of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, The Institutes, and the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University.
Howard holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
