Flood Re Strengthens Leadership Team With Key Senior Appointments

Flood Re has announced a series of senior leadership changes as the organisation continues its mission to provide affordable flood insurance for high-risk households and prepare the UK insurance market for a transition to risk-reflective pricing by 2039.

Michael Murphy (pictured left) has joined the board as an independent non-executive director. With more than 30 years of international experience spanning general insurance, life and pensions, health, reinsurance, asset management, consultancy, and technology, Murphy brings significant expertise to the role. He has held senior executive and board positions at Canada Life, Aviva, Willis Towers Watson, and Bank of Ireland, serving as CEO, managing director, CFO, and chief actuary across global, EMEA, and Irish operations. Murphy also serves as an independent non-executive director for several regulated life, wealth, and retirement businesses in the UK, while advising international insurtech founders and CEOs.

Meanwhile, Sue Mulry-Lawson (pictured right) has been appointed interim chief risk officer, succeeding Dan Byrne following his promotion to chief commercial officer. With more than 25 years’ experience in risk and compliance across the financial and professional services sectors, Mulry-Lawson previously held senior roles including group chief risk officer at Standard P&I Club, head of compliance and risk at Charles Taylor, and head of UK compliance at CPP Group. A qualified solicitor, she is also the founder of Ordo Consulting, a risk and compliance advisory firm for the insurance industry.

The appointments follow the arrival of Perry Thomas as Flood Re’s new chief executive officer. Thomas, who previously served as a non-executive director and chaired the Risk & Capital Committee, brings extensive leadership experience from senior roles at Lloyds Bank, HSBC, and Reinsurance Group of America.

In July, Flood Re further expanded its executive team with the appointment of Latinka Pilipovic as chief financial officer and board member. Pilipovic joins from Guardian Financial Services, where she was CFO, and has also held senior positions at Foresters Financial UK, Legal & General, and Aviva.
