Gallagher Re has announced the appointment of Karsten Lüers as regional director for credit, surety, and political risk.
Based in the company’s Munich office, Lüers will serve as a senior member of Gallagher Re’s Global Credit, Surety, and Political Risk practice group. With over 23 years of experience in the reinsurance sector, he specializes in credit, surety, and political risk. In his new role, Lüers will focus on supporting Gallagher Re’s existing clients while driving efforts to expand its market presence in key regions.
This strategic appointment reflects Gallagher Re’s commitment to enhancing its capabilities and strengthening its expertise within the credit, surety, and political risk segments on a global scale. The company highlighted Lüers’ extensive industry knowledge as a valuable asset in achieving these goals.
While specific initiatives under Lüers’ leadership have not yet been disclosed, his appointment underscores Gallagher Re’s dedication to fortifying its services and market position in this specialized area of reinsurance.
In related news, Gallagher Re recently promoted Ben Wathen to chief claims officer. Wathen will lead the company’s Global Claims Advocacy team, bringing more than two decades of experience in claims management, underwriting, and broking to the role.
Wathen joined Gallagher Re in April 2024 as head of complex claims. Prior to that, he served as claims manager for reinsurance at Canopius Group from June 2019 to April 2024. His tenure at Canopius also included a role as senior claims adjuster.
Before joining Canopius, Wathen worked at MS Amlin for nearly seven years. He held positions as senior claims adjuster from January 2017 to February 2019 and claims adjuster from May 2012 to December 2016. Earlier in his career, he was a reinsurance claims technician at Amlin plc from November 2004 to April 2012.
