HDI Global UK & Ireland Appoints Tom Potter As Long Tail CUO

HDI Global UK & Ireland (HDI) has appointed Tom Potter as chief underwriting officer for long tail, effective February 1.

Potter steps into the role from his current position as director of liability, where he played a key role in shaping HDI’s liability underwriting strategy. His promotion follows a series of senior underwriting appointments across the insurer’s UK and Ireland operations.

In October 2025, HDI announced several executive underwriting changes, including the promotion of Kate Sutcliffe to chief underwriting officer – short tail and Adam Curran to chief underwriting officer – specialty, each assuming broader responsibility for their respective portfolios.

Potter joined HDI in September 2025 from AXA XL, where he most recently served as global casualty underwriting manager for UK and Lloyd’s within the global chief underwriting office. He brings 15 years of underwriting experience spanning casualty, environmental, construction, and property lines.

HDI Global UK & Ireland is part of HDI Global and employs more than 5,000 people worldwide. The group reported approximately €10 billion in gross insurance revenue in 2024 under IFRS 17.

The appointment follows a recently announced leadership transition. Stephanie Ogden, who has served as chief executive officer of HDI Global UK & Ireland since 2024, will step down on January 31, 2026, to take up a new role outside the group. In connection with her departure, Hunt has assumed the position of interim CEO.
