Ian Wrigglesworth, Global Head of Aviation and Aerospace Specialty at Guy Carpenter, has been appointed president of the Aviation Insurance Association (AIA) for the 2025–2027 term.
The appointment was confirmed by the AIA Board of Directors during its recent meeting in Orlando, Florida. Wrigglesworth succeeds Chris Morin of MURRAY, MORIN & HERMAN, P.A. and becomes the first non-U.S. president of the association since David Sales concluded his term in 2017.
The AIA is a global professional organisation dedicated to advancing the aviation insurance industry. It provides a collaborative platform for underwriters, brokers, claims specialists, and other stakeholders to engage in education, networking, and knowledge sharing.
In a LinkedIn announcement, the AIA welcomed Wrigglesworth’s election, highlighting the innovation and leadership he is expected to bring to the role. He will lead a diverse team of board volunteers representing various facets of the aviation insurance sector.
Guy Carpenter, a leading global risk and reinsurance specialist, also congratulated Wrigglesworth, commending his leadership and ongoing contributions to the field.
Wrigglesworth’s presidency begins at a pivotal time for the aviation insurance market. The sector is currently navigating the implications of a landmark ruling by the High Court in London, which found that insurers are liable for claims by aircraft lessors whose jets were seized in Russia following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The ruling, which hinges on the interpretation of state expropriation under war-risk policies, is expected to have far-reaching consequences for aviation risk assessments worldwide.
