Aspen Restructures Casualty Leadership with International Focus
Aspen Insurance Holdings has appointed Ryan Cushway as Head of International and UK Casualty Insurance, effective August 1, 2025. This newly created role consolidates oversight of Aspen’s casualty operations across both UK and international markets.
Cushway, who joined Aspen in 2017, previously led the UK casualty portfolio. In his expanded remit, he will now oversee the UK and international casualty lines, including the international environmental team under Richard Spinks. Additionally, Leanne Bellows has been named Head of Excess Casualty – London & Lloyd’s Markets, reporting directly to Cushway.
Dan Osman, Active Underwriter of Syndicate 4711 and CUO of Aspen Insurance UK, highlighted the restructure as a strategic move to align leadership capabilities with client needs and Aspen’s long-term business vision.
HDI Global Appoints Head of Power Underwriting
HDI Global has strengthened its energy and power division with the appointment of Nils Langrehr as Head of Power Underwriting. Langrehr, who spent nearly 14 years at Hannover Re, brings deep expertise in underwriting both conventional and renewable energy risks, as well as experience working with London Market and US brokers.
In his new role, Langrehr will lead underwriting activities for HDI Global’s power segment, supporting clients through the energy transition by offering integrated risk solutions. His appointment is a key element of the firm’s broader strategy to address the complexities of evolving energy markets.
DAC Beachcroft Expands Professional & Commercial Risk Practice
International law firm DAC Beachcroft has bolstered its Professional & Commercial Risk Practice with the addition of Julian Smart as a Partner. Smart joins from Clyde & Co, bringing significant experience in complex liability claims involving solicitors, accountants, and insurance brokers.
His expertise also spans cases of alleged fraud, dishonesty, and commercial crime recovery claims on behalf of insurers. Prior to Clyde & Co, Smart spent 19 years at BLM, where he held senior leadership positions and contributed to the growth of its international network.
