Insurance Sector Sees Wave Of Senior Appointments Across Claims, Underwriting, And Broking

A number of insurance and reinsurance firms have announced key appointments spanning claims, underwriting, and broking functions.

Arch Insurance appoints Iberia claims manager

Arch Insurance has appointed Ángel Gándara Bonaechea as claims manager for third-party lines at Arch Insurance (EU) dac (AIEU), effective immediately.

In his new role, Gándara Bonaechea will oversee claims operations across Iberia, covering business lines such as cyber, casualty, and executive assurance.

Based in Madrid, he reports to Ray Graham, head of claims at AIEU. He brings more than 25 years of experience in claims management, joining from Aon Risk Solutions where he served as claims manager. His previous roles include positions at Marsh and Mapfre.

Liberty Specialty Markets creates new property leadership role

Liberty Specialty Markets, part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed Kevin Demmon as property divisional director in a newly created role, effective March 19.

Based in London, Demmon reports to Henry Nelson, CUO and active underwriter for the UK and MENA regions.

He will be responsible for the UK commercial and D&F international property portfolios, overseeing underwriting strategy as well as the execution of strategic objectives across Liberty’s UK and MENA property divisions.

Demmon joins from Everest, where he was international head of property, managing a global retail and wholesale portfolio. He brings more than 20 years of London market experience, with previous roles at RSA, Swiss Re, XL Insurance, and Zurich.

Ki appoints active underwriter for Syndicate 1618

Ki, the algorithm-driven digital follow platform at Lloyd’s, has named Helen Rios as active underwriter for Syndicate 1618, effective March 2026, subject to regulatory approval.

Rios has served as underwriting director for Ki’s casualty division since its launch in 2020. Prior to joining Ki, she held underwriting roles at Brit, Liberty Specialty Markets, and RMS.

BPL strengthens global capabilities with director hire

BPL, the independent credit and political risk insurance (CPRI) broker, has appointed Edouard Huberdeau as director as part of its strategy to expand global capabilities.

Huberdeau will operate across BPL’s Geneva and Paris offices, focusing on developing client solutions across the credit insurance spectrum, including surety.

He brings 25 years of experience, most recently serving as chief financial officer at Alvean Sugar SL, where he was responsible for financing strategy, risk management, and financial transformation.

Prior to that, he worked at UBS in Geneva within the commodity trade finance team, leading the energy and soft commodities desks and establishing the bank’s credit insurance desk in 2012. He also held a role on the Paris management team for BNP Paribas’ commodity trading business, following earlier experience at Crédit Lyonnais.
