Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has announced three key appointments to its energy division, enhancing its underwriting strength in the power and renewables sector.
Alex Nelson has been named Underwriting Manager for Power and Renewables, while Andrea Ciraci and Oliver Prout have joined as Senior Underwriters. Together, the trio brings more than 30 years of collective experience in leading energy underwriting.
All three will report to James Boyle, Head of Energy at LSM. Their appointments are part of the firm’s strategy to expand its growing power and renewables portfolio, complementing its well-established oil and gas capabilities.
Nelson previously headed the onshore energy portfolio at Chaucer Group. Ciraci joins from AXA and AXA XL, where he spent nine years underwriting power, renewables, and downstream energy, in addition to managing the UK nuclear portfolio. Prout brings seven years of experience in the London market, specialising in renewable energy contracts, most recently at Chaucer.
Since establishing a dedicated renewables team in 2017, LSM has built a global offering that integrates underwriting, risk engineering, and claims expertise. This model enables comprehensive risk assessment for onshore wind, solar, and battery storage projects. The team operates from key hubs including London, Paris, Madrid, and Dubai.
Beyond the renewables division, LSM is continuing to strengthen its leadership team globally. Humberto Pozo has been appointed Head of Distribution for Latin America and the US, effective January 2025. In this role, he will focus on enhancing broker and client relationships and aligning regional strategy with Liberty’s international network.
In Europe, Pierre-Édouard Fraigneau will assume the role of President for the region, effective September 2025. He will oversee LSM’s European operations and drive business development efforts to meet the evolving needs of clients across the continent.
