Lockton Names Magnus Sjöstrand As Head Of Property

Lockton has appointed Magnus Sjöstrand as head of Property for its Swedish operations, a newly created role aimed at strengthening the broker’s client base in the country.

Sjöstrand will assume the position on September 1, 2025, reporting directly to Johan Lindvall, chief executive of Lockton Sweden. Based in Stockholm, he will collaborate with colleagues in Sweden, London, and the US to develop tailored property insurance solutions for clients.

Bringing more than 15 years of experience in the sector, Sjöstrand joins from XL Insurance Company SE, where he served as senior property underwriter. He has also held leadership roles as underwriting manager for Property in the Nordics at AXA XL and XL Insurance Company SE.

The appointment comes at a time of continued growth in Sweden’s property and casualty (P&C) insurance market. According to Svensk Försäkring, non-life insurance premium income, which includes property, reached nearly SEK 26 billion in Q4 2024, reflecting a year-on-year increase of around 7%. The market remains highly concentrated, with Länsförsäkringar, If Skadeförsäkring, Trygg-Hansa and Folksam together accounting for over 80% of non-life premiums.

As the largest P&C insurance market in the Nordic region, Sweden generated approximately €10 billion in premiums in 2023. Industry analysts anticipate steady growth, supported by digital distribution, increasing household demand, and rising coverage needs related to climate adaptation. Property continues to be a core line of business alongside auto and liability, presenting opportunities for brokers to deliver tailored solutions for commercial and multinational risks.

Lockton has been steadily building its Nordic presence, with recent senior appointments including Lindvall as chief executive of Lockton Sweden and Patrick Rönnqvist as head of Affinity.
