Miller, a leading independent re/insurance broker, has announced the appointment of Guy Pierpoint to its marine division, where he will focus on driving business development efforts.
Pierpoint joined the company on November 1 and brings nearly 40 years of experience in marine insurance, spanning both the London and international markets.
Most recently, he served as portfolio manager at British Marine, a subsidiary of QBE, where he oversaw the management of its protection and indemnity (P&I) book in both London and Singapore. Prior to that, Pierpoint held senior positions, including senior executive director at Atlantic Insurance Brokers, managing retail broking operations in Houston, Texas, and spearheading business development in London.
Pierpoint’s career began in 1985 in the Lloyd’s market with GL Towers Syndicate, a part of Willis Faber Underwriting Management Group, which later became Wellington Underwriting.
In 1991, he co-founded Osprey Underwriting Agency, a marine-focused managing general agent (MGA) and Lloyd’s coverholder. As CEO, he led the company until its acquisition by Thomas Miller in 2016, after which he served as CEO of Thomas Miller Specialty until 2021.
At Miller, Pierpoint will report to Jake Jauncey, head of MTL, and Phil Wheeler, head of marine. His role will involve expanding Miller’s North American portfolio and bolstering its marine expertise. He will also collaborate closely with Peter Townsend, a senior marine broker at the firm.
Phil Wheeler praised Pierpoint’s extensive industry experience, emphasizing his potential to enhance Miller’s capabilities and drive growth in the marine sector.
This appointment follows Miller’s recent expansion of its marine team with the addition of Andrew Gordon in September, underscoring the company’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the sector.
