RSA, a subsidiary of Intact Financial Corporation, has announced the appointment of Emily Coupland as General Counsel for its UK and European operations, subject to regulatory approval.
Coupland is expected to assume her new role later this year and will join the company’s operating committee. She will oversee RSA’s legal and compliance functions across the region, guiding the business through a period of strategic transformation.
Her appointment comes as RSA prepares for a major rebranding initiative, with plans to operate under the Intact Insurance name from late 2025. The move follows RSA’s acquisition by Canada-based Intact in 2021 and will see RSA, NIG, and FarmWeb integrated under a unified operating model and brand identity. The legal and compliance team is expected to play a central role in managing regulatory frameworks, internal governance, and contractual changes during the transition.
Coupland brings more than 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, having most recently served as General Counsel for AXA UK and Ireland. Her expertise spans regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and transactional law.

Under Intact’s ownership, RSA has delivered robust financial results, reporting a pre-tax operating profit of CA$301 million (£172 million) in 2024 for its UK and Ireland business. The insurer continues to serve a broad client base, ranging from major corporates to small and medium-sized enterprises.
In her new role, Coupland will be responsible for ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions, supporting corporate governance, and overseeing the legal dimensions of RSA’s ongoing integration into the Intact group.
