Marsh has announced that Will Thomas-Ferrand, currently the international practice leader at Marsh Captive Solutions, will assume leadership of the firm’s captive insurance business starting next year.
Ellen Charnley, the current president of Marsh Captive Solutions, will retire at the end of 2024, concluding a successful seven-year tenure. Charnley, who has been with Marsh since 2004, has played a pivotal role in the growth and development of the captive insurance division during her time in leadership.
Meanwhile Thomas-Ferrand will remain in London, bringing two decades of experience with Marsh. Before his current role, he managed Marsh’s captive operations in Malta and spent a significant portion of his career working with US clients in Bermuda.
Pat Donnelly, president of specialty and global placement at Marsh, praised Thomas-Ferrand’s appointment, stating: “For over 50 years, Marsh has been at the forefront of the captive insurance industry, offering innovative solutions that help organizations manage risks with confidence. Will’s extensive experience across geographies and his commitment to our captive insurance clients make him the perfect candidate to lead Marsh’s captive business into the future.”
Donnelly also acknowledged Charnley’s contributions, commenting: “I want to personally thank Ellen for her tremendous leadership over the last seven years and wish her well in her retirement. Ellen, Will, and our leadership team will be working closely together over the next few months to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.”
Thomas-Ferrand added that more firms are turning to captives to address risks like climate change and cybersecurity.
“I look forward to leading our highly successful team as we continue to champion captive insurance and alternative risk transfer solutions around the world.”
