TransRe has restructured its data science team to enhance the development and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and large language models.
Otakar Hubschmann has been promoted to the newly created position of Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, leading the TransRe Artificial Intelligence Team (TRAIT). Socrates Pichardo, TransRe’s Chief Technology Officer, will also join TRAIT.
Otakar, who joined TransRe in 2016 from a quantitative trading background, established the company’s data science group. Under his leadership, the team has completed various projects, including automating data extraction and ingestion from submissions and contracts.
Socrates, a TransRe veteran since 1993, has spearheaded numerous IT projects, such as developing the company’s property underwriting platform and migrating its systems to the cloud. He was appointed Group CTO in 2017.
TRAIT aims to integrate AI’s rapidly evolving capabilities with TransRe’s existing expertise, providing enhanced insights for both colleagues and clients.
To effectively embed these capabilities within the company, TRAIT will report to Matt Mahoney, TransRe’s Chief Operating Officer.
In July, the Berkshire Hathaway-owned reinsurer also announced the appointments of Tina Kališnik as Global Portfolio Leader, Cyber, and Diana Liu as US Cyber Underwriting Leader.
Tina Kališnik, who joined TransRe in 2016, has been instrumental in building the company’s European professional liability business and client base, focusing particularly on cyber exposures.
Diana Liu, who joined TransRe’s actuarial department in 2019 and moved to the US professional liability underwriting team in 2022, will take on the role of US Cyber Underwriting Leader. Liu has specialized in cyber underwriting and marketing, integrating new cyber analytics and modeling capabilities into the underwriting process.
