Volante Global has announced the appointment of Demian Smith as its new Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approval and the fulfillment of his current contractual commitments.
Smith brings nearly 30 years of experience across the broking and underwriting segments of the global re/insurance industry. Since beginning his career in 1995, he has held senior leadership roles with a strong focus on strategic development and organizational transformation. Most recently, Smith served as Head of Mutual, Agency, and Captive Solutions and Co-Head of Strategic Partnerships at Guy Carpenter, where he spent five years. Prior to that, he was CEO of StarStone Group.
Earlier this month, Volante Global also welcomed Peter Montanaro to its leadership team as Non-Executive Director and Chair of Volante International Limited. Montanaro previously served as Market Oversight Director at Lloyd’s and brings significant regulatory and governance expertise. His experience is expected to be instrumental in supporting Volante’s growth across its managing general agent (MGA) and syndicate operations.
Reinsurance Strategy Strengthens
As part of its broader growth strategy, Volante Global has made key moves to bolster its reinsurance capabilities. Aaron Brockwell was recently appointed as Head of Outwards Reinsurance, a newly created role aimed at optimizing the group’s reinsurance structures and securing strategic capacity partners to support its expanding international portfolio.
In a further step towards reinsurance expansion, the company launched Volante Re, a dedicated treaty reinsurance platform, in June. Stuart Dale was named Chief Underwriting Officer for Treaty, working alongside David Martin to develop and implement the platform’s underwriting strategy and risk appetite.
These appointments and strategic initiatives reflect Volante’s commitment to building a robust global platform that combines underwriting expertise with operational agility.
