BMS Re has expanded its London reinsurance division with the strategic appointments of Jonathan Hughes and Martin Bartell to its non-marine insurance team.
The firm has appointed Hughes as Managing Director of Non-Marine Reinsurance, bringing over 30 years of industry experience. His career includes key roles at Guy Carpenter, Axis, and Aon, where he most recently led retro broking operations.
Bartell has been appointed Director of Non-Marine Reinsurance, leveraging nearly four decades of market expertise. Since beginning his career in 1986 at Alexander Howden, he has held senior positions at Benfield, Gallagher Re, and Aon, specializing in UK specialty and retro placements over the past decade.
Both Hughes and Bartell will report to Hannah Watkins, Chief Growth Officer, and will play a crucial role in supporting BMS Re’s London and Bermuda operations, as well as collaborating with international divisions.
These appointments align with BMS Re’s ongoing reinsurance growth strategy, following Brad Melvin’s appointment as BMS Re US CEO. Their arrival also follows the recent recruitment of Richard Dudley as Group Chief Broking Officer, who joined from Aon, where he led global climate strategy and oversaw London’s commercial risk wholesale and specialty broking operations.
Expanding the London reinsurance platform remains a key pillar of BMS Re’s global strategy, reinforcing its commitment to providing clients with independent, high-quality services across international markets.
