Marsh McLennan has announced key leadership changes within its insurance brokerage arm Marsh, appointing Nick Studer as president and CEO of Marsh Risk while naming Martin South as chief client officer.
The appointments will take effect on April 1. Studer will succeed South in leading Marsh Risk, while South will move into a newly created enterprise-wide role focused on strengthening client relationships across the organisation. Both executives will remain members of the executive committee and will report to John Doyle.
Leadership transition at Marsh Risk
Studer originally joined Oliver Wyman in 1997 and went on to hold several senior consulting roles across its consumer, industrial, and financial services practices before eventually becoming the firm’s chief executive.
He noted that Marsh’s continued investment in data, analytics, and artificial intelligence will play a key role in improving the client experience and supporting organisations as they navigate increasingly complex risk environments.
South, who has led Marsh Risk since 2022, will transition to the newly created role of chief client officer. In this position, he will work across Marsh’s various businesses to deepen client relationships and strengthen integration across the organisation’s capabilities. He will also focus on leveraging AI and emerging technologies to enhance the overall client experience.
South brings extensive experience in the insurance and risk advisory sector. He rejoined Marsh in 2007 and has previously served as CEO of several regional businesses, including Asia-Pacific, the UK and Ireland, Europe, and the US and Canada.
Earlier in his career, South held senior leadership roles at Zurich Financial Services, including serving on the insurer’s group management board and as CEO of its London operations.
Marsh is one of the world’s largest insurance brokers and risk advisers, with operations in more than 130 countries. The firm is part of Marsh McLennan, a global professional services group that also includes Oliver Wyman, Mercer, and Guy Carpenter.
The company provides insurance broking, risk advisory, analytics, and consulting services to corporations, governments, and institutions across a wide range of industries.
