The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has announced the appointment of Chris Bose as its new Director of General Insurance and International, effective August 11.
Bose brings over a decade of experience in financial services and public policy. He joins the ABI from Nationwide Building Society, where he led the policy and public affairs division and served as interim Director of Corporate Affairs. His career also includes senior policy and government affairs roles at Santander UK and communications consultancy Lansons.
During his tenure at Nationwide, Bose directed the organisation’s public affairs strategy between 2015 and 2025. He also played a key role during the pandemic while on secondment to HM Treasury, where he contributed to a government-commissioned review of payment systems in 2023. From 2023 to 2025, he chaired UK Finance’s External Affairs Committee and represented Nationwide on the Council of the Building Societies Association.
His appointment forms part of a broader leadership transition at the ABI. Baroness Kay Swinburne has been named the organisation’s new Independent Chair, succeeding Baroness Nicky Morgan, who held the role since its inception in 2021. The chair role, created to strengthen governance and introduce external perspectives, also includes leading the ABI Board. Swinburne will serve a three-year term and joins existing Independent Non-Executive Director Sacha Romanovitch in supporting the ABI’s strategic direction.
