American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG) has announced the appointment of Christopher Flatt as its new global chief underwriting officer (CUO). Flatt, who previously served as the head of AIG North America Alternative Channels, will now report directly to Peter Zaffino, AIG’s chairman and chief executive officer, and join the company’s Executive Leadership Team.
Commenting on the appointment, Zaffino expressed confidence in Flatt’s ability to deliver strong business and underwriting results. “Chris is a highly respected insurance executive with over 30 years of experience in underwriting, risk management, and reinsurance,” Zaffino said. “With his diverse insurance background and proven leadership track record, Chris will continue to deliver tremendous value as our global chief underwriting officer.”
Flatt joined AIG in 2017 and has since held various leadership roles within the company. Prior to AIG, he spent over 15 years at Marsh McLennan in leadership capacities and also held senior underwriting positions at GE Capital and ITT Hartford, where he began his career in the insurance industry.
In his new role, Flatt succeeds Christopher Schaper, who was appointed chief risk officer of AIG in November 2024.
Sharing his excitement to start his new job, Flatt shared, “I am honored to step into this role and lead AIG’s dedicated underwriting team. I look forward to working with our technical experts around the world to continue advancing our culture of underwriting excellence and shape the future of underwriting at AIG.”
As Flatt transitions to his new role, Erin Fry, president of Glatfelter and executive vice president of AIG Commercial Lines Programs, has been named head of AIG North America Alternative Channels. Fry will report to Don Bailey, executive vice president and CEO for AIG North America Insurance.
