Aon plc has announced the appointment of Erlantz Urbieta as Chief Broking Officer (CBO) for the EMEA region, effective immediately. He will continue to oversee the firm’s Commercial Risk operations in Spain during a transition phase.
Urbieta succeeds Terence Williams, who has been named Head of Commercial Risk for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. With more than 25 years at Aon, Urbieta brings a wealth of experience, having held numerous senior leadership roles within the Spanish business. His expertise spans broking, carrier management, risk consulting, claims, and specialty lines across property and casualty sectors.
In his new role, Urbieta will report to Luca Tassarotti, Head of Commercial Risk Solutions for EMEA, and Cynthia Beveridge, Aon’s Global Chief Broking Officer. Beveridge acknowledged Williams’ significant contributions in strengthening the broking function across the EMEA region and advancing Aon’s global broking strategy.
Strategic Leadership Expansion in EMEA
Urbieta’s promotion is part of a broader strategic expansion across Aon’s EMEA operations. In December, the firm appointed Steve Dando as CEO of its Strategy and Technology Group for the region. Dando’s mandate includes integrating cutting-edge technologies—such as artificial intelligence and data analytics—into Aon’s services to enhance client outcomes and decision-making.
Further bolstering its EMEA capabilities, Aon expanded its transportation and logistics team in August last year with several key appointments:
- Jan Steven Kelder as Industry Specialty Leader for Transportation and Logistics, EMEA
- Rutger van der Hoeven as Head of Growth for Transportation and Logistics and Head of Commodity Trade, EMEA
- Tomas Winje as Head of Cargo and Logistics, EMEA
The company has also seen several global leadership changes. Last month, Eric Andersen transitioned out of his role as Aon’s President, now serving as Senior Adviser to CEO Greg Case. Case has assumed the additional role of President during the transition, which will continue through June 2026.
Additionally, Aon appointed Denise Perlman as CEO of its North America Middle Market practice. Later this year, the firm is also set to welcome John Neal, current CEO of Lloyd’s, who will step into a senior leadership role at Aon.
