Arch Insurance International has appointed Gaurav Sharma as its new chief information officer (CIO).
Based in London, Sharma will oversee the execution of Arch’s technology modernisation agenda, with a focus on delivering measurable outcomes that support the insurer’s broader business strategy and growth ambitions. He will report to Ketan Motwani, chief operating officer of Arch Insurance International.
Sharma brings more than 25 years of experience in technology leadership and large-scale transformation. He joins Arch from AXA Health, where he most recently served as head of technology. Earlier in his career, he held senior technology positions at RSA Insurance UK, Zurich Insurance and Aspen Re.
Technology transformation at the centre of the role
Sharma’s appointment places technology transformation firmly within Arch Insurance International’s operational leadership structure.
Motwani joined Arch as UK chief operating officer in June 2024, moving from Aon UK. At Aon, he served as chief operating officer for commercial risk across global, wholesale and specialty broking, with responsibilities covering transformation, service delivery, operations and digital platforms.
In his new role, Sharma will work within this leadership structure as Arch continues to advance its technology modernisation efforts.
Sharma takes over CIO role after recent leadership change
The appointment comes after a relatively recent change in Arch’s CIO position.
In July 2025, Arch appointed David Maher as chief information officer. Maher had joined the business in 2024 as international head of delivery and reported to both Motwani and Prashant Nema, deputy chief operating officer at Arch Capital Group.
Maher brought extensive experience in digital and technology leadership, having previously held senior roles at Lloyds Banking Group, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Direct Line Group, WTW and UBS.
According to Maher’s LinkedIn profile, his tenure as Arch’s CIO ended in March 2026, around eight months after he took on the position.
Sharma now takes over the CIO role as Arch continues its focus on technology modernisation and resilience. His experience across technology functions and large-scale transformation will be relevant to the insurer’s ongoing efforts to align technology with its business and growth objectives.
The change in CIO leadership does not, by itself, establish a reason for Maher’s departure or indicate instability within Arch. Leadership transitions can occur for a variety of reasons. However, Sharma joins at a point when the company’s technology modernisation agenda is already underway and has experienced a change in senior leadership.
