“AXIS Capital Names Kyle Freeman Head Of AXIS ILS Division, Continues Strategic Leadership Evolution”

In a strategic move, AXIS Capital has appointed Kyle Freeman to spearhead its AXIS ILS (insurance-linked securities) division. Freeman, who has been an integral part of the insurance group since 2021, steps into this pivotal role with a wealth of experience and expertise.

In his new capacity, Freeman will be at the helm of AXIS’s endeavors in managing third-party assets under management. He will directly report to AXIS’s Chief Financial Officer, Peter Vogt, underlining the significance of this role within the organization’s leadership hierarchy.

Freeman’s journey at AXIS began in 2021, where he initially served as the Head of ILS Structuring for property. His responsibilities encompassed not only nurturing investor relations but also overseeing capital investments across various fronts, including property catastrophe sidecars, catastrophe bonds, joint ventures, and other ILS vehicles. Prior to his tenure at AXIS, Freeman held the position of Head of North America Programs Pricing at AXA XL, further enriching his portfolio of skills and experiences.

With a diverse background that includes stints at renowned institutions such as JPMorgan, AIR Worldwide, and USAA (United Services Automobile Association), Freeman brings a unique perspective shaped by his past roles. Notably, his journey began as a nuclear engineer and submarine officer with the US Navy, where he served for seven years before transitioning into the corporate sphere.

Peter Vogt expressed confidence in Freeman’s capabilities, emphasizing his extensive knowledge and track record in the realm of ILS. Vogt remarked, “Kyle is a valued leader within the AXIS organization who has extensive knowledge and experience in ILS, working with the investor community, and creating alternative reinsurance structures.” Vogt highlighted Freeman’s role in driving innovation within the company, citing his leadership in pioneering initiatives such as the Long Walk Re transaction, which marked AXIS’s groundbreaking entry into the cyber catastrophe bond market.

Looking ahead, Vogt underscored the pivotal role Freeman will play in advancing AXIS’s leadership position in specialty insurance. He noted, “We look forward to the continued development of our ILS initiatives under Kyle’s leadership, programs that will be essential to AXIS advancing its leadership position in specialty.”

Freeman’s promotion aligns with AXIS’s recent strategic realignments in its leadership roster, which include key appointments such as Chief Commercial Officer, Global Chief Information Officer, and Chief Underwriting Officer for Global Cyber & Technology. Moreover, in May, the company is poised for a transition at the board level, with W. Marston Becker set to assume the role of Non-Executive Chair from Henry B. Smith, who will continue serving as an AXIS board member. This series of leadership changes underscores AXIS’s commitment to fostering talent and driving innovation as it navigates the evolving landscape of the insurance industry.
