Great-West Lifeco Inc. has named Lindsey Rix-Broom, the current Chief Executive Officer of Canada Life UK, as its new CEO of Europe, effective July 1, 2025.
This leadership change is part of a broader transition plan previously announced by the company. On the same date, David Harney, who currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Europe and Capital & Risk Solutions, will assume the role of President and CEO of both Great-West Lifeco and Canada Life.
In her forthcoming position, Rix-Broom will report directly to Harney and join Great-West Lifeco’s executive management committee. She will continue to lead Canada Life UK until a successor is appointed, ensuring continuity and a smooth transition.
With more than 25 years of experience in financial services, Rix-Broom has played a pivotal role in Canada Life UK’s strategic evolution. Since becoming CEO, she has spearheaded key initiatives focused on business modernization and growth. Her leadership has driven expansion in the UK bulk purchase annuity market and introduced operational and technological enhancements across the organization.
Great-West Lifeco’s European operations are conducted through subsidiaries such as Canada Life and Irish Life, offering insurance and wealth management services across the UK, Ireland, Germany, and the Isle of Man. The European division represents a significant component of the company’s global strategy.
In the first quarter of 2024, Lifeco’s European segment reported base earnings of CA$204 million, marking a 15% increase year-over-year. The company attributed this growth to favorable interest rate environments, increased net fee and spread income driven by higher assets under administration, and improved mortality trends.
Looking ahead, Lifeco remains committed to strengthening its wealth and retirement businesses across Europe. Notably, the fourth quarter of 2024 saw robust, double-digit growth across all key performance indicators within these segments.
