Consilium Declares New Co-CEO

Consilium, the international broking (re)insurance arm of the Aventum Group, has today declared the appointment of Paul Richards as co-CEO alongside James Baird who was called CEO in November.

Richards, who was previously executive director and a member of Ed’s executive committee for nearly three years, has decades of insurance knowledge. He previously served as MD of Ed Broking’s professional and executive risks division after spending almost 11 years as economic lines leader and executive director at WTW and 13 years as a partner at JLT in the UK and Australia.

Commenting on the news, co-CEO and supervising partner at Consilium, Baird – who has been colleagues with Richards for 22 years now – said the team was delighted that he has taken up his new managerial role.

“We’re a proven partnership many times over and together we make a compelling and capable leadership team,” he said. “Quietly building its existence as a Top 50 Broker, 2023 will be a transformational year for Consilium as we strive to be one of the best and most inspirational specialty wholesale (re)insurance broking businesses.”

Richards also commented on his appointment and said: “I’m hugely excited to have the chance to help shape and drive this business forward and be a part of the journey it has embarked on.  This host of recent senior meetings is a clear signal of intent to the market.  We’ve undeniably got a long and challenging journey ahead to reach our destination, but I know that Consilium is destined for great things.

“It has the culture, the people, the drive, the investment, the expertise, and the chance to succeed and perhaps most importantly it is passionate and cares about getting results for clients – something which customers everywhere will be keenly aware of following the challenging 1:1 reinsurance renewals. Under my and James’s leadership, supported by the rest of the group surveillance team and staff it will be an exciting and rewarding journey ahead.”

The news is the latest in a string of senior hires made by Consilium over the last few months, which include a new COO and head of claims. In a Press release, the business noted that it has on boarded 14 new starters since the start of 2023.
