Somerset Reinsurance has recently appointed Thomas Porter as its new Chief Underwriting Officer.

In his new role at Somerset, Porter will be based in Bermuda and will directly report to CEO and Chairman Jeff Burt. His responsibilities include overseeing the company’s underwriting and pricing strategies for all new reinsurance business and retrocessions.

Commenting on Porter’s appointment, Burt stated, “Expanding on our liability-driven organizational approach, we are thrilled to welcome Thomas and his extensive reinsurance experience as the leader of our underwriting team.”

“As we maintain our track record of stable and consistent growth, his blend of finance, valuation expertise, and proven client-facing successes will expedite our expansion across the market.”

Porter expressed optimism about joining Somerset, highlighting his nine-year history as a client of the company.

“Having been a client of Somerset for the past nine years, I had the opportunity to work with the team on various transactions. Somerset Re’s capabilities, vision, and execution are unparalleled, making it an easy decision to join them and contribute to their long-term, client-focused strategy.”

Porter’s appointment follows Somerset’s announcement of Manisha Dias as its Head of New Business Development.
